Locations & Facilities Database

Where you rest, shop, craft and fight. The Town of Beginnings and its facilities, the prologue dungeon, Safety Areas and the boss Arks — every place the demo takes you, and what each is for.

The demo's world has three kinds of place: the Town of Beginnings (your safe hub and every facility in it), the dungeon and field (where you fight and explore), and the Arks (boss arenas you commit to). This page is the data view of all of them — what each location does and how it fits the loop of exploring, fighting and returning to prepare.

Based on the demo build. Locations and facilities are confirmed from the official Starter and Demo guides and the playable demo. The full game covers the 1st and 2nd Floors of Aincrad; the demo is confined to Floor 1's prologue dungeon and town.

The Town of Beginnings

The series' iconic first-floor hub returns as your base of operations. Everything that isn't fighting happens here: it's where you convert the levels, Col and materials you earn in the field into a stronger character. It also doubles as the safe anchor between the dangerous stretches — you leave town to fight, and return to town to prepare for the next fight. Learning the town's five facilities is learning the game's entire out-of-combat loop.

Town facilities

FacilityWhat it does
The Inn Rest to spend Growth Points on your attributes, and swap your equipped weapon between quests.
The Smithy Create, strengthen and fuse gear; pool EX-Mods. Your gear-upgrade hub, gated by Cardinal Rank.
The Merchant Buy items and craft consumables and tactical tools for Col; sell your surplus. Stock grows with Cardinal Rank.
Chest Orb Manage your equipment and progression — your storage and loadout interface in town.
Main Terminal Accept quests. Completing them advances the Main Quest and raises your Cardinal Rank.

The five work as a system. You accept a quest at the Main Terminal, gear up at the Smithy and Merchant, sort your loadout at the Chest Orb, then rest at the Inn to spend Growth Points and lock in your weapon before heading out. Come back with fresh materials and Col, and the cycle repeats — each trip leaving you a little stronger.

The prologue dungeon

The demo opens in the prologue dungeon — a maze you escape while learning the ropes. It's where the demo front-loads its tutorial: you create your avatar, take your first fights against fodder enemies, meet your partner Iori at the first junction, and face the demo's two story bosses, the Sentry Golem and then Illfang the Kobold Lord, before emerging into the Town of Beginnings. The demo walkthrough maps the full route step by step.

Safety Areas & checkpoints

Out in the dungeon and field, two systems keep you oriented and alive. Safety Areas are recovery points where you replenish Healing Crystals and manage equipment — the safe islands between threats, and often your real objective when a stretch is grinding you down. Checkpoints reveal the map of the surrounding region and mark points of interest as you explore; some also unlock shortcuts through Ark boss battles. Together they turn exploration from wandering into something you can read and plan around. Full detail in the checkpoints & Arks guide.

Arks: the boss arenas

Arks are the game's term for its boss and elite arenas, and two rules define them: there's no shop inside, and once the boss fight begins you cannot retreat. That makes an Ark a threshold you cross deliberately — whatever consumables, upgrades and loadout you bring are locked in for the whole fight. The demo's two story bosses are fought at their Arks, and field elites like the Raging Boar guard their own. The rule that follows is simple: prepare fully in town, top up at a Safety Area, then commit. Walking into an Ark under-stocked is the most avoidable defeat in the game.

The world beyond: Floors 1 and 2

The Town of Beginnings sits on Floor 1 of Aincrad, the hundred-floor floating castle of series lore. The full game is set across the 1st and 2nd Floors — serene plains, perilous dungeons and the towns that anchor them — with the map expanding as the story progresses and you discover new settlements. The demo stays on Floor 1, but discovering new towns is itself a form of progression: it raises your Cardinal Rank, which gates shops, crafting and drops. So exploration isn't just sightseeing; reaching a new place makes the whole town-facility loop more powerful. It's a neat inversion of the usual RPG shape: here, one of the safest things you can do — walk into a new town — is also among the most rewarding, because every settlement you discover upgrades the shop, the Smithy recipes and the drops waiting for you back at base. Curiosity pays a concrete dividend.

How to run a town visit

With five facilities, a town visit goes fastest with a routine. A reliable order: start at the Main Terminal to pick up or turn in quests, since quest progress raises Cardinal Rank and unlocks better everything. Sell surplus and restock consumables at the Merchant next, while you still know what the next stretch demands. Upgrade your weapon at the Smithy with the Col and materials you just sorted. Manage your loadout at the Chest Orb — swap in the gear and EX-Mods you want. And finish at the Inn, resting to spend Growth Points and lock in the weapon you'll carry out, since weapons only swap here between quests. Run the loop in that order and nothing gets forgotten: you leave town with a fresh quest, a full pouch, an upgraded weapon, a tuned loadout and your Growth Points spent. Skip a step and you'll usually notice it at the worst moment — an under-stocked pouch outside an Ark, or unspent Growth Points sitting through a boss fight.

The Chest Orb and Main Terminal

Two facilities get less attention than the Inn, Smithy and Merchant but matter just as much. The Chest Orb is your equipment and progression management interface — think of it as storage plus loadout, where you organize gear, stash the spare weapons you're keeping for EX-Mod fusion, and set up what you'll actually carry. It's easy to ignore until your inventory fills up, at which point it becomes essential for keeping fusion fodder straight from the junk you mean to sell. The Main Terminal is where you accept quests — and because completing the Main Quest is the primary driver of Cardinal Rank, the Terminal is really the engine of your world access. Treat checking it as the first thing you do in town: a new quest available is a new step toward better shops, recipes and drops.

How locations tie the game together

Every place here plays a role in one loop, and seeing the loop makes the map legible. You explore the field and dungeon (revealing checkpoints, discovering towns, raising Cardinal Rank); you fight for levels, Col and materials; you recover at Safety Areas; you prepare in the Town of Beginnings across its five facilities; and you commit to an Ark when you're ready, clearing its boss to open the next stretch. The town is the still point that makes the dangerous parts survivable — no Ark is winnable without the preparation the town enables, and no town facility matters without the materials the field provides. Read the map through that loop and you always know where to go next.
