The pre-order bonus: Proto-Elucidator weapon pack

Pre-ordering any edition grants the Proto-Elucidator pack — a set of early-game weapons spanning all six weapon types, with shields and blueprints included. The name nods to the franchise's most famous blade, but functionally this is a convenience bundle: a head start on gear for whatever class you pick, not an endgame advantage. The inclusion of blueprints is the interesting part — it points to a crafting/forging layer in the town upgrade loop.

Nothing in the pre-order pack appears to be permanently missable — these are early-game items you would outgrow regardless. Pre-order for convenience, not fear of missing out.

What each upgrade tier really buys

Deluxe (+$20): the expansion is the value

The Deluxe tier bundles the expansion DLC — post-launch story content that would typically sell for $20–30 on its own. If you already know you'll want more Aincrad after the credits, Deluxe is effectively the expansion at a discount with extras thrown in. The early Death Game Mode unlock is the headline extra, but treat it carefully: the mode deletes your save on death and is designed for second playthroughs. Our Death Game guide explains why you shouldn't touch it on day one even if you own it.

Ultimate (+$40): for collectors

The extra $20 over Deluxe buys a bonus app and an exclusive armor pack. Cosmetic-leaning value — if the word "exclusive" does something to you, this is your tier; otherwise the money is better spent on snacks for launch night.

Our recommendation

  • Most players: Standard. The base campaign is the product; you can buy the expansion later if the game hooks you.
  • Franchise fans who'll play everything: Deluxe. The expansion bundle math works in your favor.
  • Completionists and collectors: Ultimate, eyes open — you're paying for exclusivity, not content volume.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Echoes of Aincrad pre-order bonus?
All pre-orders include the Proto-Elucidator weapon pack: early-game weapons covering all six weapon types, plus shields and blueprints.
What does the Deluxe Edition include?
The Deluxe Edition ($89.99) includes the base game, the expansion DLC, a starter pack, and early unlock of Death Game Mode.
What does the Ultimate Edition include?
The Ultimate Edition ($109.99) includes everything in the Deluxe Edition plus a bonus app and an exclusive armor pack.
Is the Deluxe Edition of Echoes of Aincrad worth it?
If you plan to play the expansion DLC anyway, yes — the $20 difference is less than typical expansion pricing. If you only want the base campaign, the Standard Edition is enough; the early Death Game unlock is best ignored on a first playthrough anyway.
