Echoes of Aincrad is now live on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam, closing the short but noisy pre-launch window around Bandai Namco's new Sword Art Online action RPG. If you are coming in from the demo, do not rush straight to a fresh save: the important launch-day detail is that the Day 1 update, Ver.1.0.3, adds demo save transfer support.
That means the first thing to do is boring and correct: update the game, update the demo if your platform requires it, then read the save-transfer prompt carefully before declining anything. Demo progress has been one of the highest-intent questions around the game, and this patch is the answer players were waiting for.
What Ver.1.0.3 Changes
The patch is not just a technical launch file. Bandai Namco's notes list save-transfer support alongside a broad set of gameplay adjustments touching weapons, Sword Skills, Combination Skills, Support Skills, enemies, difficulty settings, EX-MODs and Unique MODs.
That matters for every guide written from the demo. Weapon rankings, build advice and boss strategy should now be treated as retail verification in progress until tested against the patched launch build. The demo was useful; it is no longer the final word.
The update also adjusts step and roll invincibility timing, which is a small line with a large gameplay footprint. If defense feels different from the demo, this is probably why. Our defense, weapon build and difficulty pages will be rechecked around the launch version rather than quietly carrying old assumptions forward.
Demo Save Transfer Is the First Thing to Check
Bandai Namco's save-transfer guidance is built around the same-platform-family rule: do not assume a PlayStation demo save can move to Steam, or that a console save crosses ecosystems. If your demo progress matters, stay inside the platform family where you played it and follow the in-game import flow.
The safest launch-day order:
- Update the full game to Ver.1.0.3.
- Keep your demo save installed and synced.
- Launch the full game on the same platform family.
- Read the save-transfer prompt before choosing to skip it.
- Confirm that your character, progression and inventory are present before deleting any demo data.
Until we can test every platform path directly, treat cross-platform carry-over as unsupported unless Bandai Namco states otherwise.
What We Are Updating Next
This site's old pre-launch pages are being converted in priority order. The first wave is the launch-facing material: release date, FAQ, PC system requirements and privacy/legal pages. After that, the important work is retail testing: builds, weapons, defense timing, Death Game Mode, save transfer and PC/Steam Deck performance.
For now, start here:
- Launch info and platforms
- Demo save transfer guide
- PC system requirements
- Beginner's guide
- Death Game Mode explained
