Echoes of Aincrad Demo Set for June 15 Release as Steam Deck Performance Concerns Emerge

The Echoes of Aincrad demo releases on June 15. Players can test save transfers, though early reports highlight performance issues on Steam Deck and ROG Ally.

Bandai Namco has announced that a playable demo for the upcoming action RPG Echoes of Aincrad will launch on Steam on June 15, 2026, at 17:00 UTC, followed by a console release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on June 16. The demo offers a head start on the steel castle Aincrad before the game's official release date on July 10.

While players are eager to test out the game's features, early hands-on impressions have surfaced critical concerns regarding performance on PC handhelds like the Steam Deck.

What to Expect in the Echoes of Aincrad Demo

Following the previous demo announcement, Bandai Namco has detailed the specific features players can test. The demo includes the ability to carry over progress and save data to the full retail release.

Players can experience the in-depth character creation system and test out the combat flow alongside their AI companion via the partner system. To prevent players from progressing too far ahead of launch, the demo enforces strict level caps, weapon proficiency limits, and locked progression tiers.

Steam Deck and ROG Ally Performance Under Scrutiny

While anticipation is high, early previewers have noted performance struggles on portable gaming systems. According to hands-on coverage, the preview build ran poorly on the Steam Deck, failing to hit a stable 30 frames per second even when exploring indoor environments.

Performance on the Asus ROG Ally was slightly better but still required significant compromises. Playing at 1080p using Temporal Super Resolution (TSR) on the lowest quality settings yielded a mostly playable experience, but still suffered frequent frame drops below the 30fps threshold. Handheld gamers hoping for a smooth portable experience may need to wait for post-launch optimization patches or carefully adjust their settings. Players planning to run the game on standard hardware can review the official system requirements to gauge how their rigs will fare.

New Story Details and Aimer Theme Song Revealed

In addition to the demo details, Bandai Namco and developer Game Studio released the second story trailer for the game. The trailer features the theme song "Live to..." performed by the popular Japanese artist Aimer.

The latest footage highlights the narrative stakes of the game, including the tension of the permadeath Death Game Mode where a single defeat deletes the player's character. Fans who want to dissect the cinematic details can keep up with the latest trailers and preview breakdowns to prepare for their descent into Aincrad.
